I am Alyssa Brant, and I am in my fourth year studying journalism at the University of Texas at Austin. This has been my passion for eight years, and I am looking forward to a lifetime career in this field.

My path to a journalism career started in the eighth grade. Being in a  school that just opened, I was giving the unique opportunity to start a brand new publication. My first position was the entertainment editor for the newspaper, which then led me to becoming the editor in chief my freshman year. My adviser then asked me to start a newsmagazine, and I became the founder and editor in chief my sophomore year. By my senior year, I continued with the magazine but was also put onto the yearbook staff as a copy editor as well as designing spreads.

Throughout my experience, I have gained many skills such as managing a staff, editing, layout design and business advertisement management. When it comes to writing, I love  in depth features focusing on the story of one individual. I feel that everyone has a story, and I want to showcase those who feel they just blend in with the crowd.

Eventually I want to become a high school yearbook adviser. I am still in contact with my adviser from high school, and I consider her as a great mentor and role model. I love teaching and seeing the accomplishment on the faces of students

when they see their work physically printed.

Journalists have a mission and responsibility to the community, and I hope that one day I can make an impact on others.
